English College Open 2015

23-25. jaanuaril toimus Tallinna Inglise Kolledžis iga-aastane väitlusturniir English College Open. Osalejaid oli nii Eestist, Lätist kui ka Leedust ning turniiri peakohtunik Anna England-Kerr tuli kohale Inglismaalt.

Kolme paeva jooksul said väitlejad uusi teadmisi nii MM-formaadi kui ka väitlusteemade kohta. Turniiril väideldi teemadel, mille hulgas olid “Riik peaks kasutama õppeasutusi patriotismi sisendamiseks”, “Seksistlikud laulud tuleks ära keelata”. Finaalis väitlesid Läti meeskond Jesus Superstar +3 ja Eesti “???” teemal “Kõik piirid tuleks ära kaotada”. Turniiri võitsid ka eelmisel aastal osalenud Jesus Superstar + 3. Parimaks kõnelejaks osutus Carl-Martin Keerberg (HTG). Erilise tunnustuse kõnelemisoskuse eest sai Vikki Perijainen (TIK).

Tallinn English College hosted our annual debating tournament English College Open (ECO) last weekend (23-25 January). There were participants from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the chief adjudicator, Anna England-Kerr, came from the United Kingdom. During the three-day-tournament debaters gained new knowledge about the WSDC format as well as the motions they debated. Among the motion were "This house believes that state should use their educational institutions to instill patriotism", "This house would ban music with sexist lyrics" and in the final Latvian team Jesus Superstar+3 and Estonian team ??? debated the motion "This house would open all borders". The winners of ECO 2015 were Jesus Superstar+3, who participated also in last year’s tournament. The prize for the best speaker was awared to Carl-Martin Keerberg (HTG). Vikki Perijainen (TEC) received a special mention for her speaking skills.
